ZS "Kalna Smīdes 1"
“Kalna Smīdes 1” is an organic beekeeping and farming enterprise set in a scenic location in Drabeši Parish, Cēsis region, close to Gauja National Park and on the banks of the Amata River. Surrounded by forests, rolling hills and water, the farm offers a peaceful, inspiring environment where nature still follows its natural rhythm.
Founded in 1991, “Kalna Smīdes 1” is a family-run farm with decades of experience and deep respect for nature. The farm focuses on two main activities—organic beekeeping and seed production—both developed in accordance with certified organic farming principles.
Visitors are welcome to explore the farm and discover the fascinating world of bees. Learn about the daily life of a beekeeper, observe how bee products are made, ask questions, and gain insight into the vital role bees play in the natural ecosystem.
A highlight of the visit is the tasting of different types of honey and honey blends. This experience reveals how the diversity of flowers, meadows and surrounding landscapes is reflected in the flavour, aroma and colour of the honey.
The farm visit is ideal for families, nature lovers, school groups and anyone looking to enjoy the countryside, learn about organic beekeeping, and experience the authentic atmosphere of a Latvian rural farm.
