When planning your adventure in the Cēsis region and Latvia, we recommend checking national holidays and seasonal opening times to ensure that all the places you want to visit will be open and ready to welcome you!

Some of the most important national holidays celebrated not only in the Cēsis region but throughout Latvia include:

• Labour Day and the day of the convening of the Constitutional Assembly of the Republic of Latvia (1th of May) and Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia (4th of May)
  
  These spring holidays are celebrated with various events across the region and country. Both locals and visitors are welcome to join in with their families and friends.
• Midsummer Eve (23rd of June) and Midsummer Day (24th of June)
  
  These ancient solstice festivals are filled with traditions such as cheese making, singing, jumping over bonfires, weaving flower crowns, and staying up all night to greet the sunrise.
• Latvian Independence Day (18th of November)
  
  A day marking Latvia’s proclamation of independence in 1918. On this national holiday, many attractions may be closed. Celebrations across Cēsis and other towns often include cultural events and patriotic gatherings.

Seasonality in the Cēsis Region: Latvia experiences four distinct seasons, each with its own unique charm.
While the summer season (from May to October) is the peak travel period — with longer days and pleasant weather perfect for outdoor activities — it’s important to keep in mind that some tourist sites may operate on a seasonal schedule. The colder months (from November to March) mark the off-season, characterized by lower temperatures. During this time, some attractions may be closed or open with limited hours.
