“Siļķes” – The Jansons Family of Sculptors’ Home/Workshop
“Siļķes” is a culturally significant sculptors’ homestead dating back to the early 19th century, and still home to contemporary sculptor Matiass Jansons (b. 1973). This historic site offers a rare opportunity to witness the creative process in action, engage in discussions about art and culture, and explore a lineage of renowned Latvian sculptors.
Here, in two working sculpture studios, masterpieces have been created by four generations of the Jansons family:
- Prof. Kārlis Jansons (1896–1986)
- Andrejs Jansons (1937–2006)
- Maija Baltiņa-Jansone (1941–2016)
- Matiass Jansons (b. 1973)
Their public sculptures and monuments can be found across Latvia and internationally. For many years, this site also hosted summer workshops for the Sculpture Department of the Art Academy of Latvia.
