Sculpture "Battle with Centaurus"
This distinguished bronze sculpture is the graduation piece of renowned Latvian sculptor Kārlis Jansons (1896–1969), which he completed in 1925 upon finishing his studies at the Academy of Arts. A gift to the city of Cēsis, the original plaster version remained in storage for decades until it was finally cast in bronze and installed in 1977 at the square on Lielā Katrīnas Street.
Today, the sculpture resides in Maija Park, where it has become one of Cēsis’ most iconic symbols—its expressive form capturing the city’s artistic heritage and pride.
