Song hill

Song Hill is a place where oak trees were planted and commemorative stones with engraved inscriptions were placed to mark the centenary of the Song Festival, honouring the choirs of the Cēsis district that took part in the centenary General Song Festival in Riga in 1973.

From Song Hill, a beautiful view opens over the Cēsis landscape, including the Pubuliņi residential area and Glūda Hill. It is especially picturesque in the evenings, when the sun sets and the city lights come on, making it a popular spot for romantics.

To celebrate Latvia’s centenary, an 18-metre-high flagpole was installed on the hill, from which the Latvian flag flew during the closing concert of the centenary Song Festival in Mežaparks. From the hilltop, the red-white-red flag on the tower of Cēsis Castle can also be seen.

Originally, an oak grove was planned here; however, of the 100 oaks planted in 1973, only a few have taken root and grown.
