Historic Cēsis City Cemetery
The Cēsis City Cemetery, established 250 years ago, is one of the most significant cultural and historical sites in Cēsis, Latvia. For two centuries, it served as the burial ground for members of the Lutheran congregation, and since the mid-19th century, also for the city’s Jewish and Orthodox communities.
During the Soviet occupation, the cemetery fell into neglect and suffered extensive damage. In recent years, systematic restoration and preservation efforts have begun, including a full inventory documenting around 800 surviving monuments and fragments.
