Zvārtes Rock
Zvārtes Rock is one of Latvia’s most stunning red Devonian sandstone outcrops, located on the scenic banks of the Amata River, surrounded by lush forests and meadows. The site offers spectacular views both from the river and the top of the cliff, accessible via a staircase.
The outcrop consists of two main sections: to the southeast lies a semicircular collapse cliff rising up to 44 metres, while to the northwest is a prominent rock ledge shaped by the Amata River, reaching up to 19 metres. The full length of the cliff is approximately 200 metres. Just downstream, on the opposite bank, stands Miglas Rock, also known as Snake Rock, reaching 25 metres in height.
Next to Zvārtes Rock is a seasonal visitor centre, open during the active tourist season. Here, visitors can learn more about the Amata River hiking trails, enjoy locally brewed coffee, and purchase regional delicacies and crafts.
A 21.5 km scenic trail runs along the Amata River, which can be explored in full or in sections. View the trail map here.
