Folk Fishing Craft Museum
The Folk Fishing Craft Museum, founded in 2013 on the banks of the Gauja River, was created by local enthusiasts, like-minded individuals and admirers of traditional river fishing.
Here, the exhibits still carry the scent of waterweed and the nets remain damp. It’s a story of the Gauja and the men along its banks—about whom one local once said: “In Lejaslīgatne by the Gauja, boys are born with a little fishing spear in hand.”
An engaging guide shares how our ancestors fished and how it’s done today. Visitors can try traditional fishing methods themselves. On summer evenings, fireside gatherings invite reflection on how to preserve the Gauja and its living waters so its riverside paths never become overgrown.
NB! Visits are only possible with prior booking.
