Līgatne Ferry
The Līgatne Cable Ferry is the only ferry of its kind in the Baltics. It consists of two boats joined together with a wooden deck on top. A steel cable stretched across the Gauja River keeps the ferry in place, while the natural current moves it from one bank to the other.
Historically, three bridges crossed the Gauja in Līgatne. After World War II destroyed them, the Līgatne Paper Mill established this ferry to help workers from the opposite bank (Pārgauja) commute to work. Since 2013, the ferry has been managed by the joint administrations of Līgatne and Pārgauja.
The ferry operates daily, though service may occasionally be disrupted due to technical or environmental conditions. For the latest updates, call the ferryman at: +371 25737578.
