Dzērbene Manor

Built in classical style, Dzērbene Manor has withstood centuries of destruction and restoration. In the late 19th century, a striking four-sided Neo-Gothic tower was added, making it one of the most architecturally unique manor houses in Latvia.

Today, visitors can enjoy an exhibition of historical artefacts and take part in the thrilling escape room experience “Maria’s Escape Room”, available by prior booking (minimum 3 days in advance).

Jette Užāne Memorial Room – A Tribute in Beads and Wool

Within the manor, guests can explore the memorial room of Jette Užāne, a revered Latvian folk artist who, despite living her life in a wheelchair, created over a thousand pairs of intricate, symbolic mittens.

The ceiling of the room is adorned with 1,500 beads, representing the countless mittens she knit – mittens that “sang, laughed, and wept” her life story. Many of her creations are now preserved in Latvian museums and the “Cimdu ceļš” (Mitten Path) foundation.

In the memorial, you’ll find:

  • Her handmade mittens and tiny doll-sized versions
  • Miniature characters inspired by literary figures
  • Prize-winning works from mitten-themed competitions
  • A photo gallery by Gunārs Janaitis chronicling Jette’s life
  • Her inspiring quotes and reflections, handwritten on the walls
