Vaive Mill
Nestled along the Cēsis–Rauna road in Priekuļi parish, Vaive Mill is a picturesque site of both natural and historical significance. It sits beside the small but swift Vaive River – an 18 km long tributary of the Rauna River.
In its lower course, the river flows through a 7 km long, 1.5 km wide valley, rich with springs, sandstone and dolomite outcrops, and even small caves. Striking reddish rock formations can be seen near the roadside and at the small bridge over the river, extending to the Mill Pond and shaping a uniquely beautiful landscape.
The Vaive Mill building was reconstructed in the 19th century, with a complex of sluices, rapids, and drops established to support its function. The historic mill dam was unfortunately washed out during the 1998 flood, but the surrounding area remains a captivating destination for nature lovers, photographers, and those exploring Latvia’s cultural heritage.
