Priekuļi spring
The name “Priekuļi” was formerly known as Avotene, likely due to the abundance of natural springs in the region—especially in the scenic Vaive Ravine.
Historically, these springs provided the area’s water supply. Even today, remnants of old water infrastructure can be spotted while walking through Vaive Ravine. Currently, water is sourced from artesian wells.
At one time, the forest spring near Priekuļi powered a hydraulic ram to deliver water to the local technical school. As electricity became more widespread, the system transitioned to electric pumps. When an artesian well was drilled and a water tower was constructed around 1970, the spring was no longer used for centralized water supply.
Nevertheless, the forest spring in Priekuļi remained a beloved source of water for many locals over the years.
