Piebalga is a place with deep cultural and historical roots, and on August 8th, you’ll be able to enjoy its greatness all in one place. In Jaunpiebalga, there will be a fair-exhibition called “Izvēlies Piebalgu!”, which throughout the day will bring together artisans, home producers, musicians, artists, athletes, and visitors from near and far.

Discover the history of linen clothing and check out historical textiles, a collection of linen garments designed by a designer, as well as a hat exhibition by hat maker Milda Skadiņa. You can have an even more exciting experience by joining a creative workshop and making a pincushion with your monogram or a leather keychain. Linen clothes and textiles are also available for purchase on site.

Take a trip back in time by exploring the private collection created by the Petkēvičs family, featuring household items from the Soviet era and earlier. The museum also has a large porcelain exhibit that includes pieces from the Riga Porcelain Factory, Kuznetsov, and other countries. Visits are possible by appointment only.

Emīls Dārziņš and Jānis Sudrabkalns Memorial Museum “Jāņaskola”

Visit the historic Jāņaskola and learn about the life story of composer Emīls Dārziņš by listening to his music and discovering the stories kept in the museum. Next to the museum is the Oliveretto trail, dedicated to the poet Jānis Sudrabkalns, which takes you through places from his childhood memories. Tickets can only be paid for in cash.

Enjoy a relaxing time in the scenic surroundings of Vieķi Hillfort and get to know the daily life of sheep farming at the “Mazvieķi” farm. During the tour, you can take a walk through the pastures, learn more about sheep farming, and taste delicious lamb soup under the lush branches of an oak tree. You can also buy honey and wooden crafts on-site.

If you want to ride the Green Railway route section Ieriķi–Gulbene (105 km) but don’t have your own bike, VeloTava in Jaunpiebalga offers bike rentals, route recommendations, and practical help on the way. Bikes can be delivered to the starting point of your ride and picked up at the finish, and you can also get help if technical problems arise. The VeloTava team will help you choose the best route so you can fully enjoy the Piebalga landscapes and all that the Green Railway has to offer.
