The Cēsis region is the ultimate destination for winter enthusiasts – those who love the rush of the wind while skiing, performing tricks on a snowboard, or simply soaking up positive emotions in the fresh, crisp air of the great outdoors. Nestled in the beautiful Vidzeme Uplands, our region offers a unique blend of landscapes: from the longest downhill slopes in Latvia to the vast, serene plains that define our countryside. We have compiled a list of the best spots to enjoy fun and sporty activities during the 2026 winter season. Pack your gear and see you on the tracks!

Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding

The Cēsis region is the undisputed leader among winter destinations in Latvia. Here, right on the banks of the ancient Gauja River valley, you will find the two largest skiing centres in the country, offering both the longest descents and powerful snowparks.

  • Ozolkalns: Home to Latvia’s longest slopes and breathtaking views of the Gauja valley. Includes a dedicated skiing school for children.
  • Žagarkalns: Features a wide variety of slopes for all skill levels, a snowpark, and an expert skiing school.

Safety First!

While enjoying the winter season in the Cēsis region, please remember your safety and the safety of others:

Respect Each Other: To keep the trails in top condition, please do not walk on cross-country tracks without skis or bring pets onto the prepared tracks.

Ice Hazards: We strictly urge you not to step onto the ice of natural water bodies (ponds, lakes, rivers)! The municipality-maintained ice rinks are the only safe alternative for skating. Natural ice can be deceptive and life-threatening.

Weather Conditions: Please follow the latest forecasts. The quality of trails and ice rinks is directly dependent on the outdoor temperature and can change throughout the day.
