New Audio Guide in Līgatne
Did you know that Līgatne’s former social club once housed one of the first bowling alleys in Latvia, locally known as the “bumbotava”?
Līgatne is proud of its unique industrial and cultural heritage. The historic Līgatne Paper Mill Village, once considered the most modern workers’ settlement in Europe, is now a protected national cultural heritage site. To promote this exceptional area, a new tourism product was launched at the end of 2024 – the Līgatne Paper Mill Village audio guide.

The audio guide features 21 historical sites, offering fascinating stories and lesser-known facts about the village’s past. Visitors can listen to the guide for free by scanning a QR code on-site with their phone. In addition to the audio content, a detailed written description is also available through the same QR code.
The guide is available in Latvian, English, German, and Estonian, making it an ideal way for both local and international travellers to explore the area.
Special thanks to Rasma Vanaga, a long-time guide and passionate historian of the Līgatne Paper Mill, for her invaluable support and contribution to the development of this content.
The project No. 23-09-AL18-A019.2201-000011 “Development of the Līgatne Cultural Heritage Trail Audio Guide” has been implemented with the support of Cēsis District Rural Partnership, thanks to funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development under the Latvian Rural Development Programme 2014–2020, LEADER project initiative.
