Emīls Dārziņš and Jānis Sudrabkalns Memorial Museum “Jāņaskola”
Step inside the former schoolhouse, built in 1871, and let its rooms, stories, and melodies guide you through the life of composer Emīls Dārziņš. As you explore the memorial exhibits and listen to his music, you’re invited to reflect on three riddles – the mysteries of his life, death, and art.
Nearby, Oliveretto Trail gently winds beside the museum, leading visitors into the poetic world of Jānis Sudrabkalns (1894–1975) – one of Latvia’s most celebrated poets. He spent his childhood in Zeltakrogs and studied here, in Jāņaskola. For him, Piebalga remained a cherished island of memory throughout his life.
