Day 2: Closer to Nature
Begin your second day by reconnecting with nature in the picturesque surroundings of Cēsis.
Start with a visit to the majestic Ērgļu Cliffs, just a short drive from the town. From the viewing platform, enjoy sweeping views of the Gauja River Valley stretching to the north and west.

Continue your journey with a stop at the Zaļais Tornis (Green Tower) – a modern, 22-metre-high nature observation tower, equipped with the latest technology and free for all visitors. It’s an ideal spot for panoramic views and birdwatching.
For something a little different, explore the Nordic Nature Medicine Museum, featuring over 40 medicinal plants native to Latvia and the northern region. Whether you’re well-versed in herbal remedies or just beginning to explore the power of plants, this exhibition offers fascinating insights into a world of ancient knowledge and future possibilities.

As the day draws to a close, we recommend dining at one of the Michelin-recommended restaurants in Cēsis. For example, Restaurant KEST bears a name rooted in history – referencing the time when the Livonians across the river called this side of Gauja “kest”. Chef Māris Jansons, a well-known figure in Latvian gastronomy, leads the kitchen with creativity and flair. The restaurant’s boat emblem symbolises the crossing of time and tradition.
