Campfire in Nature

Campfire Safety Reminder: Enjoy Nature Responsibly!

When heading out for a picnic or camping in Latvia’s state forests, it’s essential to follow fire safety rules to help prevent wildfires caused by careless behavior. Even the smallest spark can lead to devastating fires, putting both people and nature at risk.

To ensure a safe and pleasant camping experience, Cēsis Municipality has designated recreation areas equipped with proper campfire spots, wooden benches, and tables.

Campfire Guidelines:

  • Only light campfires in designated fire pits or marked safe zones.
  • Clear the ground around the fire pit to prevent flames from spreading to dry grass or bushes.
  • Make sure your fire is located away from trees, buildings, and flammable materials.
  • Always consider wind direction before starting a fire.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Keep firefighting tools nearby, such as a bucket of water.
  • Fully extinguish the fire before leaving to eliminate the risk of a wildfire.
  • Clean up your picnic site. Take all your trash—including food waste and leftover firewood—and leave the area as you found it.
  • If a fire starts and you cannot control it, call 112 immediately!

Note: The State Forests of Latvia (Latvijas valsts meži) reminds visitors that during officially declared fire hazard periods, campfires in forests are only allowed in specially designated fire areas.
