Chapel
Constructed in 1905 at the initiative of the executives of the paper mill, this Classical-style chapel was dedicated to Arnold Tiling, the long-standing technical director of the factory and a graduate of the first class of the Riga Polytechnic Institute, who worked in Līgatne for 28 years. He started working at the factory in 1875 but in 1903, he fell ill and went to Germany for treatment, where he eventually passed away. However, he was laid to rest in the Līgatne Central Cemetery, also known as the Spriņģi Cemetery. In tribute to Arnold Tiling, the chapel bears the inscription ‘Arnold Capella’. Additionally, one of the footbridges in Līgatne was named after him, with the inscription ‘Arnold’ on one side of the railing and ‘Elizia’ on the other. The footbridge was situated in the town centre, near where the canal flows into the pond, connecting the Road from the Riga Hill to the pharmacy.
The chapel is the last public building constructed by the Līgatne Paper Mill, and it is still in use today for funeral ceremonies. This cemetery is now partially closed, with burials limited to those residents of Līgatne who already have family graves here. Most of those buried in the Spriņģi Cemetery were once employed at the paper mill or were otherwise associated with Līgatne.
